I think I have figured out a way for PAYSL teams to do better. My understanding is that each PAYSL team gets some funds to either pay for an external trainer. Or the coach can keep the money and do the training themselves.

I've seen a few PAYSL coaches. My kids played with PAYSL when they were in Rec. They are a fine organization. The PAYSL coaches do a fine job teaching technical skills and tactical understanding of the game. Especially if the team is playing Rec. But the quality of training does not compare to the other clubs in town.

But from what I've seen most PAYSL coaches are not quite up to it for teaching Rec+ or Select players technical skills or tactical understanding. Their teams would benefit from bringing in a paid trainer once a week who would do a better job teaching.

One of my kids who played PAYSL Rec (now plays above D1) once was kicking around a ball near a PAYSL Select practice. My kid points out the coach is not correcting the players as they do a skill incorrectly. I've never played the sport, but I've been standing on the sidelines for years for my kids and at multiple clubs. I had to agree the quality of the training was worse than any I'd seen at any local club.

I'm not saying this to slam PAYSL. I think they provide a valuable soccer playing opportunity for Rec, Rec+ and Select players. But if they do have a fund to pay for paid trainers, then that money should go to paid trainers. Not to the volunteer coach, or his brother.

PAYSL can get a reputable paid trainer from a local indoor soccer place, or even one of the other clubs in the area. Do it for the kids. Don't pocket the $500.

Over the years I've heard many PAYSL parents say they were going to switch to a soccer club for better training.

If PAYSL required once a week outside trainers, then that might help them keep their better players.

Then maybe someday PAYSL might have D1 teams. Maybe someday they might have SCL or Premier.

You can attend practices all around town, at any club, and see coaches not correcting technique and skills. That is hardly unique to PAYSL. You seem to imply there is a large contingent of independent trainers waiting to train a team once a week but I don't think they exist. Who do suggest for this role?

I have seen trainers not correcting poor technique. I won't mention the club. Fortunately I've seen a lot more of trainers stopping a drill and correcting poor technique. Maybe I've been lucky.

As to how PAYSL would identify and hire these sorts of trainers, I don't know. That is a task for PAYSL to solve. That is why they make the big bucks. Perhaps they can find a few trainers who want to keep their weekends free by not coaching a team. Those trainers might be happy working 1, 2, 3, or 4 nights a week for 1 or 2 sessions per night. Or perhaps the trainers run a pool training that like ages attend which gives them a 3rd night of training per week.

Why would anyone want to pay fees to a rec club like Paysl when you have Texans in the same city. There is NO technical training going on at PAYSL. Sure there are times trainers dont correct every technical flaw but the Texan coaches do teach it and devote specific time in training sessions.

PAYSL is about $500 a year. That is 1/4 the cost of other clubs. That is significant to many PAYSL families.

Texans training is not much better. If a PAYSL kid wants to get better training then One World is a much better choice. They are even close to the PAYSL fields than Texans.

From what I've seen, some PAYSL coaches just roll the ball out. Some try to train but lack the knowledge to effectively train. Reading Coaching Soccer For Dummies, and taking a training class isn't enough. A very few are able to effectively train.

The PAYSL 02G Green team is pre-qualified for D1. Are they planning on staying in D1, or dropping to S2?

I heard they lost a player or two mid-year because they didn't want the commitment of time/travel of a D1 team. Wondering if they've got enough commitment now to maintain core and stick it out.

They have a team and will be D1 again this fall. Overall the team did not add quality in the off season and additional players are rumored to be considering options for mid-season again. The problem is the parents are happy paying less and like the amount of control they have at PAYSL. The girls have mostly been together from rec ball and feel good about the team because of the success they have had.

I assumed the PAYSL team would recruit some of the former Crossfire players to backfill the losses and stay afloat. But that does not appear to have happened - make you wonder if they have a long term plan.

It looks like they have 9 returning players of 15, so they satisfy the 50%+ 1 rule. But they only have 11 rostered, which means they lost 6 players and only recruited 2. Will be difficult to be successful in D1 with 11 players. Is it possible they haven't added all new players yet in GotSoccer?

What about 02G Blue? They aren't currently pre-qualified for S2. Are they planning to do Qualifying Tournament? I think they landed some new players from S2 teams that aren't listed on the roster yet. And those players might be quite unhappy if they end up being D2.
