Red card
Very end of the first half in high school game, small altercation. First half ends and player continues to talk to referee (hasn't left the field yet). Referee then shows red card to player. Should team play with 10, or be able to play with 11? I believe rule states that since player received card during halftime they don't play a man down. My argument is the card was a result of play at the end of the half, and team should play a man down for second half. Anyone know correct ruling?
Re: Red card
Interesting question. Given that you have unlimited substitutions between periods, are any players considered to be "players" at halftime or are they all "substitutes" until play is resumed by the official after half time? If a "substitute" is sent off, you don't play a man down. I might be inclined to say that offenses committed at half-time and any sending off related to them would be assessed against "substitutes" since there are no "players" at that point, just a roster of potential "players" for the next half.Trojan14 wrote:Very end of the first half in high school game, small altercation. Re: Red card
Old post but I'll chime in. Per 2018-19 NFHS Soccer Rules (12.8.2 Situation F) Between periods or during halftime interval, a team member directs offensive, insulting or abusive language at an official. The Team Member is DISQUALIFIED. The team WILL be able to play with 11 players the next period. NFHS Ruling : This is Legal. A team does not play short for a team member disqualified during an interval between periods.
I would assume by the way the ? was presented that the official disqualified the player for something they said to him/her not for the foul on the field as if the RED CARD was for the foul the card would have been given directly after the foul or at the next stoppage. If the Ref blew for halftime IMO he has passed his chance to show the card for the foul.
