Time For UT Change

Post by My2Cents » Mon Oct 10, 2016 10:33 am

Head Coach Angela Kelly
Fifth Season
Record at Texas: 46-36-13 (as of today)
This year: 6-6-1 (conference 0-3-1) with 4 games to go

While at Texas

2012 Texas 8-10-2 (.425) 4-4-0 (.500) Fourth in Big 12
2013 Texas 12-6-2 (.650) 5-2-1 (.688) Third in Big 12
2014 Texas 11-8-4 (.565) 4-4-0 (.500) NCAA Second Round, Fifth in Big 12
2015 Texas 8-6-4 (.556) 4-3-1 (.563) Third in Big 12

No Sweet 16 Appearances
Made NCAA tournament only 2 times (once was her fist year with previous coaches recruits and then in 2014)
No Big 12 championships (regular season or tournament)
Only 5 All-Big 12 Conference players

With all of the resources at UT would any other Coach keep his/her job with these stats?

I have said since the day they made UT women's soccer a Division 1 sport that any coach who can not come in and within 4 years have the program consistently in the top 20 and rarely dropping out, they are not doing the job. With the facilities and resources, all you have to do is recruit the state and you should have top 20 heck top 10 talent on your team. But wait, I thought according to other chats that K. Lilly was pretty much running the UT training and team and she is just awesome. Does not seem so impressive by either of them

To directly answer the question - No.

No other coach would be given this much latitude.

The only reasonable explanation is the UT athletic department has women's soccer to balance the title-9 requirements and could care less about the results.

Perrin could care less about soccer the money maker is not stable so Kelly will fly under the radar. As long as she does not say or do anything stupid she will be around. She just got a commit from a eight grader so future looks bright. Kelly has underperformed to say the least. She gets the players just does nothing with them once here.

How many national top 100 recruits have come to UT in the past 5 years?

How many international standouts has she been able to bring in? I know of two - the twins.

The top soccer school in the state is A&M and it falls off sharp after that. You might say the number two school is St. Edwards (constantly national top 20 in DII). Baylor made significant investment in facilities but I'd assume the scandal has hurt that program and may still be more desirable than UT. Trinity has a great soccer tradition for a DIII school. Texas is bottom of the Big 12.

Crappy stats and even crappier attendance. I've been to several UT soccer games and the fan base and attendance is embarrassing for a school this size. Angela, you should be doing a better job with what you were handed. And for Christs sake, wear some decent clothing while you coach. You look like you shop at Target!

Not sure their ranking this year but Texas Tech has usually been the Texas school ranked after A&M.

I agree attendance is an issue. Use to be a lot better. What is the difference now? Is it only the poor showing by the team failing to create excitement?

A commit from an 8th grader is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So so so many years and factors befor this little sweetly gets to college. I don't care if she's the next big thing - that is stupid. I can assure you some girl in Texas will develop more and bypass this child in the next few years. But well done for this kid as she must be an amazing player right now.
