I am an old man now (late 30s) and do more coaching than playing..... but had OS as a child.
I suffered pretty bad playing hockey (impact) / catching in baseball (kneeling) / or really any sport where running was involved for a long period of time (soccer).
Excluding some knobby looking knees, I was pretty much clear of it by the time I hit 17 (my last growth spurt that did not involve a buffet).
A regiment of anti-I before exercise and ice immediately after was all that really could be done to help out.
